Easy Daily Yoga Practice

I practice yoga everyday. I feel incomplete or that something is missing when I skip a day or two of practice. My daily yoga practice is under half an hour. So it can be easily incorporated into your morning routine.

There are tons of benefits to be gained from practicing yoga, but this article is not about describing the benefits of a daily yoga practice, but rather to provide an easy workout plan which you can use or tweak.

Surya Namaskar

Patrick Hendry

To start the daily yoga practice, do Surya Namaskar for about 3 times. There are many versions of Surya Namaskar and you can find an abundance of information on performing Surya Namaskar online.

Remember to breath correctly while doing Surya Namaskar. That is, to breath in while in one position, and to breathe out when in the next position. Continue in that manner until you complete Surya Namaskar.

Another breathing exercise is Kapalbhati. I do this after I do Surya Namaskar. Sit with your legs crossed. Breath in deeply using both your nostrils. Then breath out forcefully pushing your navel towards your spine. Rest and repeat for approximately 5 minutes.

Anulom Vilom

The next exercise is Anulom Vilom. I do this for about 5 minutes. Anulom Vilom is a breathing exercise. Sit cross legged or in a comfortable position and place your thumb on your right nostril while you block your left nostril with your middle finger and ring finger.

Remove your thumb and breathe in through your right nostril (remember to keep the left nostril closed with your fingers) breathe in for a count of 5. Hold your breath for a count of 5. Then close the right nostril with your thumb and remove your fingers from the left nostril. Breath out of the left nostril for a count of 10. Now breathe in from the left nostril for a count of 5. Hold your breath for a count of 5. Close the left nostril with your fingers and remove your thumb from the right nostril. Breathe out through the right nostril for a count of 10. Continue in that manner for 5 minutes.

Bhramari is one of the exercise that makes me feel calm and relaxed. I conclude my morning yoga session with this exercise.

Sit with your legs crossed and cover your eyes with pinky, ring and middle finger then place your index finger on your eyebrows. Close your ears with thumb and inhale deeply. Now when you exhale make a humming sound with your mouth shut. Repeat this at least 3 times, it soothes your nerves and relieves stress and anxiety.

This is a very simple yoga exercise that I practice everyday consistently. You can try and increase your timing gradually. Keep practicing yoga.
